It is essential that every business knows their obligations under the Privacy Act. You must ensure you abide by privacy laws when you collect, use, secure and disclose personal information. Privacy Awareness Week, run from 24-30 August is a good time for you to understand your privacy obligations and review your practices when handling personal information.

Some suggested ways you can be involved in Privacy Awareness Week include:

  • review your privacy policy and privacy procedures
  • develop and promote privacy FAQs and information for customers
  • promote good privacy practices by holding staff information sessions or publishing articles on intranets or in newsletters
  • distribute the Privacy Awareness Week promotional items available from the Office of the Privacy Commissioner.

You may also find it useful to download the Guide to Privacy for Small Business from the Office of the Privacy Commissioner website. For more information on taking part in the week, visit the Privacy Awareness Week website.
