Tax Office “Support” for Small Business

Today the Tax Office announced their intention to support selected small businesses by paying them a visit.

In order to assist viable small businesses to stay on their feet during the economic downturn we are introducing a program of visits to discuss their plans for meeting various tax obligations.

We will be visiting small businesses showing early signs of difficulty, such as later lodgment of activity statements or increasing debt levels and will offer them practical help to meet their obligations.

Topics that may be discussed during the visit include lodgment, record-keeping, options for activity statement completion, options for meeting PAYG instalments and withholding, and super obligations – ideally, business owners should be aware of these things before the need for a Tax Office visit.

(Note: If you have been too busy running your business to have kept up-to-date with ever-changing tax laws and compliance issues, you are not alone. This is why we offer a free, no-obligation consultation…often all you need is the right information and resources. To take advantage of this free offer, please call (02) 43904156).

The program will begin 9 March and be ongoing. The ATO have said:

We will make direct contact with business owners, so require no action from tax agents.

Even so, we will be advising our clients to contact us immediately if they are selected.
